Milence, the joint venture backed by Daimler Truck, TRATON Group, and Volvo Group, has launched a new public charging hub for electric trucks in Ghent, Belgium, marking the company’s fourth facility in the country.
Located near the Schansakker exit on the R4 ring road, the charging hub is strategically positioned to support the growing electrification of freight transport in one of Belgium’s key industrial and logistics regions.
The project, developed in collaboration with the Volvo Group, forms part of Milence’s broader strategy to accelerate the transition to zero-emission road transport across Europe. In its initial phase, the Ghent site is equipped with four high-power CCS charging bays, each capable of delivering up to 400 kW. The facility is designed to provide reliable and efficient charging for electric truck fleets traveling along major European freight corridors.
Milence plans to further enhance the hub in a future phase by introducing Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology. Once implemented, the MCS infrastructure could allow heavy-duty electric trucks to recharge their batteries within 30 to 45 minutes, significantly reducing downtime for long-distance transport operations.
The company has already deployed MCS technology at several locations in its network, including hubs in Zwolle in the Netherlands, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium, and Landvetter in Sweden.
Situated within the North Sea Port area, the new Ghent charging hub strengthens connectivity along the TEN-T North Sea–Mediterranean Corridor. This major logistics route links Belgium with key transport hubs in France, the Netherlands, and Germany, making it one of the most important freight corridors in Europe.
The Ghent site also complements Milence’s expanding regional network, which currently includes two charging hubs in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and another in Maasmechelen. Its proximity to Volvo’s manufacturing plant in Ghent further enhances its strategic value for logistics fleets and cross-border freight operators.
Unlike conventional EV charging stations designed for passenger vehicles, the Ghent facility is purpose-built for heavy-duty trucks from all manufacturers. The site features drive-through charging bays, convenient access from nearby highways, and on-site sanitary facilities, allowing drivers to take rest breaks while their vehicles charge.
The hub supports multiple payment options, including contactless payments, e-Mobility Service Provider (eMSP) cards, and the Milence Charge Card, offering flexibility for fleet operators and independent drivers.
Milence has also introduced a market-based pricing model across its European network to better reflect regional energy costs. In Belgium, the base charging price was reduced to €0.379 per kWh, excluding VAT, starting January 1, 2026. The company says the pricing adjustment aims to provide greater cost transparency and help fleet operators manage the total cost of ownership as they transition to electric trucks.
As demand for zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles continues to grow across Europe, Milence is expanding its charging infrastructure along major transport corridors. The opening of the Ghent hub represents another step in the company’s corridor-focused deployment strategy, aimed at supporting long-distance electric freight transport throughout the continent.
Milence CEO Anja van Niersen highlighted Ghent’s importance within Europe’s logistics network, noting that the city’s strategic location makes it a key addition to the company’s rapidly growing charging ecosystem. Meanwhile, Volvo Group said the initiative aligns with its long-term commitment to building a more sustainable transport system and strengthening supply chains connected to its truck manufacturing operations.
