During evacuation operations, reports emerged of two tourists suspected of dying on the mountain. BNPB confirmed the information is still being verified by Basarnas and other relevant agencies. Authorities also noted that the injuries occurred despite prior closure of the mountain to tourists by the Ministry of Tourism. Preliminary investigations suggest negligence by individuals who continued climbing after the area was officially closed. “There is an allegation of negligence from tourism activists or parties who continued climbing despite the closure notification,” Muhari added.

BPBD and Basarnas teams remain on site, prioritizing the safety of residents and climbers while monitoring the volcano’s activity. Authorities urge the public to adhere to safety regulations and avoid entering the restricted zone.
