Organisers of the Dan Kneen Charitable Fund have announced that this year’s Le Dans cycling event will not take place, citing rising costs, limited time, and personal commitments as the main factors behind the decision.
The 24-hour event, scheduled for the first weekend of August on the Jurby Circuit, has been a highlight of the charity’s calendar for five years.
Le Dans 24 has raised over £23,000 since its inception, attracting cycling enthusiasts and supporters from across the region. Despite the pause, the charity emphasizes that it remains fully active and committed to its mission.
The Fund’s current focus will be on delivering TORQ, its welfare support service, at major motorsport events including the TT, Manx Grand Prix, and Southern 100. TORQ provides practical, year-round support to people involved in the sport, continuing the legacy of 30-year-old TT rider Dan Kneen, who tragically died during a qualifying session in 2018.
Anyone already registered for Le Dans will be offered a full refund, according to the charity. While the event will not run this year, organisers stress that it is only taking a temporary break and that future fundraising activity will continue to be evaluated.
In a statement, the Dan Kneen Charitable Fund expressed gratitude to all volunteers, participants, and supporters who have helped make Le Dans “a positive part of the Fund’s story.” The charity highlighted the “huge effort” required to deliver an event of its scale, acknowledging the dedication of those involved.
The pause in Le Dans reflects broader challenges faced by charities in balancing rising operational costs with ambitious fundraising activities. Meanwhile, the Fund remains committed to supporting the motorsport community through its TORQ service and other initiatives that honor Dan Kneen’s legacy.
