The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) is set to unveil a roster of 51 cyclists representing the country at two upcoming continental championships in Abuja from May 9 to 17. The events include the 3rd CAC Para-Track and the 12th Track African Championships, held consecutively at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome.
Bashir Mohammed, CFN’s technical director, expressed gratitude to National Sports Commission chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and director-general Honourable Bukola Olopade for approving the federation’s budget for both competitions.
Team Nigeria will include 17 cyclists for the Para-Track Championship. The Track African Championship lineup will feature 10 elite men, six elite women, six junior boys, six junior girls, three male and three female B-Class riders, and five competitors in the C 1–5 category.
CFN secretary-general Joel Akinluwa confirmed the schedule: the Para-Track Championship will take place from May 9 to 11, followed by the Track African Championship from May 13 to 17.
Akinluwa also provided insights into the competition, noting that South Africa will send 27 cyclists, Kenya 21, Zimbabwe five, and Algeria 21, while the number of participants from Ghana and Benin Republic remains unknown. The official list of Team Nigeria cyclists will be released in the coming days.
The championships offer a platform for Nigeria’s elite and para-cyclists to compete at a continental level and aim to showcase the nation’s growing talent in track cycling.
