Chinese automaker BYD is set to introduce its new luxury electric vehicle, the Denza Z9 GT, to the European market on April 8, 2026. The Denza Z9 GT stands out as one of the longest-range pure electric vehicles globally, offering an impressive WLTP range of nearly 500 miles (800 kilometers) on a single charge. This achievement is made possible by BYD’s advanced Blade Battery 2.0 and its innovative Flash Charging technology.
The Denza Z9 GT is a large luxury electric shooting brake, measuring 5,195 mm in length and featuring a wheelbase of 3,125 mm, making it comparable in size to well-known premium models like the Porsche Panamera and Taycan. The vehicle will be available in China with two powertrain options: a single rear-mounted motor producing 370 kW (496 horsepower) and a more powerful tri-motor setup delivering a combined output of 850 kW (1,140 horsepower). The tri-motor variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under three seconds, highlighting its high-performance credentials.
One of the Denza Z9 GT’s most remarkable features is its Flash Charging capability. BYD’s charging stations can replenish the battery from 10% to 70% in just five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes under optimal conditions. Even in extreme cold temperatures as low as -30°C, the vehicle requires only three additional minutes to charge from 20% to full capacity. This fast charging technology is supported by a robust network of thousands of Flash Charging stations already installed across China, with plans for expansion into Europe starting this year.
Inside the Denza Z9 GT, luxury and technology merge seamlessly. The vehicle offers what BYD calls an “opera-house entertainment experience,” featuring a customized speaker system equipped with Dolby Atmos immersive audio technology. This premium interior environment aims to deliver a unique driving experience tailored for discerning European customers.
BYD has enlisted actor Daniel Craig, famous for his role as James Bond, to promote the new model, emphasizing the brand’s ambition to set new standards for luxury electric vehicles in Europe. According to BYD’s Executive Vice President Stella Li, the Z9 GT embodies the brand’s commitment to combining advanced technology with elegant design and emotional driving appeal.
The European launch event will take place at the Paris Opera House, symbolizing BYD’s intent to establish a strong foothold in the continent’s luxury EV segment. With an initial price starting at approximately $39,300 (269,800 yuan) in China and widespread availability across Chinese cities for test drives, BYD aims to leverage its technological advancements and competitive pricing to challenge established premium electric vehicle makers.
The introduction of the Denza Z9 GT marks a significant milestone for BYD as it begins rolling out its global Flash Charging infrastructure alongside this flagship model. This move signals growing competition within the luxury electric vehicle market as automakers strive to improve battery performance and reduce charging times dramatically.
