Chevrolet’s 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X Close Out C8 Generation

by Shreeya

Chevrolet has confirmed that the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X will mark the final new variants of the eighth-generation C8 Corvette. This announcement signals the end of an era for the model that revolutionized Corvette’s performance and design. According to Corvette Chief Engineer Josh Holder, the Grand Sport models have traditionally appeared late in the lifecycle of each Corvette generation, serving as a fresh highlight before a new generation debuts.

Holder explained that the 2027 Grand Sport will close out the C8 lineup, with no new variants planned afterward, although minor improvements might still be introduced before the next generation arrives. The Grand Sport name has a long history with Chevrolet, originally introduced as a special racing-focused edition during the C2 generation. It reappeared briefly in limited forms in later generations and became more prominent in recent years.

The latest Grand Sport models bring significant updates, including a new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 engine replacing the outgoing 6.2-liter LT2. This new powertrain boosts output to 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, delivering improved performance for both the standard Grand Sport and the base Stingray model. Additionally, the Grand Sport X variant introduces a hybrid system with an electric motor on the front axle, combining for a total of 721 horsepower and all-wheel drive.

While Chevrolet has not officially announced when the ninth-generation Corvette will launch, industry experts speculate it could debut as early as late 2028 or early 2029, possibly at the Detroit auto show. This timing aligns with past Corvette generational cycles and Chevrolet’s strategy of introducing a Grand Sport model late in each cycle to maintain excitement.

The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport thus represents both a celebration of the C8’s achievements and a bridge to the future. It offers enthusiasts enhanced performance and new technology while closing the chapter on one of Chevrolet’s most transformative sports cars. Fans can expect more detailed information about these final C8 models in upcoming months as Chevrolet prepares for its next big reveal.
