BYD has officially unveiled the Great Tang, a flagship all-electric crossover aimed at elevating the brand in China’s competitive EV market. According to BYD, the new SUV can travel up to 590 miles on a single charge and combines high-performance capabilities with luxury features, including rear-wheel steering, dual-chamber air suspension, and a 27-speaker audio system.
The Great Tang is the production iteration of the Dynasty D concept first shown at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. After filing for sales approval in China on February 6, BYD formally launched the vehicle on March 5, signaling its ambitions to compete in the upper echelons of the EV segment.
Full-Size Design Meets Flagship Ambitions
Built around BYD’s “Loong Face” or Dragon Face design language, the Great Tang stands out with its distinctive dragon-whisker lighting signature and a prominent trapezoidal lower intake. Other design highlights include semi-hidden door handles, roof-mounted LiDAR, and striking chrome wheels.
Measuring 208.7 inches in length, 78.7 inches in width, and 70.9 inches in height, with a 123.2-inch wheelbase, the Great Tang firmly enters full-size SUV territory, making it one of China’s largest electric crossovers.
At the heart of the vehicle is BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, which offers 5% higher energy density and supports charging rates up to 1 megawatt. The rear-wheel-drive variant produces 402 hp and achieves an estimated 590 miles of range under the Chinese CLTC cycle, positioning it among the longest-range EVs in its class.
High Performance and Advanced Chassis Technology
The all-wheel-drive version boosts power to 784 hp, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds, while offering a range of approximately 528 miles. The Great Tang also features BYD’s DiSus A suspension system with dual-chamber air springs and rear-wheel steering, delivering a remarkably tight 17.1-foot turning radius—narrower than that of the Mini Hatch.
Inside, the SUV offers a seven-seat 2+2+3 layout with zero-gravity second-row seats. Additional interior highlights include powered doors, a 68.2-square-foot panoramic roof, an 8.9-cubic-foot rear cargo area, a three-screen dashboard, folding second-row tables, a ceiling-mounted display, and a built-in refrigerator.
Luxury, Technology, and Driver Assistance
Buyers can choose between 20- or 21-inch wheels, and the vehicle comes equipped with BYD’s DiPilot 300 driver assistance suite, also called God’s Eye B, which enables Navigate on Autopilot functions on both city streets and highways.
The Great Tang is expected to launch in China in late April at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, where BYD is likely to reveal detailed trim levels, pricing, and availability.
With its combination of long range, high performance, and premium features, the Great Tang positions itself not just as a large family EV, but as a statement vehicle showcasing BYD’s growing ambitions in the global electric vehicle market.
