The Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is providing discounted preventative breast cancer screenings for the month of October. This promotion is available regardless of a patient’s insurance status.
Eligibility for the Screening
To be eligible for the $50 mammogram, you must be over 40 and not have had a mammogram in the past year. You also cannot have breast implants or a history of breast cancer in the past five years. Participants should not be currently experiencing any specific breast problems.
No Insurance or Referral Needed
A key feature of this program is its accessibility. You do not need health insurance to participate. A physician’s referral is also not required. The only cost for the screening is the $50 promotional fee.
The Importance of Early Detection
Hospital officials stress the critical importance of early screening. “Early screening, early detection and treatment save lives,” said Dr. Tiffany Le Endo of Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. She noted that approximately one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The hospital uses 3D mammography, which is considered more accurate than traditional mammograms.
A No-Shame, Ongoing Opportunity
Dr. Endo also offered reassurance for those who have delayed their screenings. She said there is no shame if you haven’t been screened in a while, emphasizing that the most important step is to get screened as soon as possible. For those who cannot schedule an appointment in October, the hospital also offers the same $50 mammogram promotion every April.
