FXC has been a cornerstone of competitive skiing in Fairbanks for two decades, growing from fewer than a dozen participants to more than 60 skiers, ages 10–18.

The program offers seasonal and year-round training at the Competition, Prep, and Junior Development levels, providing young athletes with the skills and experience to excel in cross-country skiing.

Fairbanks offers one of the longest natural snow ski seasons in the United States, stretching from late October through April, despite an elevation under 1,000 feet.

FXC’s home venue, the Birch Hill Recreation Area, features a premier trail network and world-class facilities ideal for training and competitions.

With nearly 1,000 members and a strong financial foundation, the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks has been a leader in cross-country skiing for more than 50 years. The community boasts a vibrant high school ski culture and a deeply supportive ski environment, making it an ideal location for a head coach dedicated to developing young talent.

Competing at the Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium, Lundup clocked 28 minutes, 26.7 seconds (28:26.7), trailing gold medalist Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo of Norway by 7 minutes, 50.5 seconds.

Klaebo claimed his eighth Winter Olympic gold with a time of 20:36.2, equalling the record held by compatriots Ole Einar Bjorndalen and Bjorn Daehlie, as well as Marit Bjorgen. France’s Mathis Desloges (20:41.1) won silver, while Norway’s Einar Hedegart (20:50.2) secured bronze.

The men’s 10km interval start freestyle is a time-trial event, where athletes start 30 seconds apart and race against the clock over a course with uphill, downhill, and flat sections. The skier with the fastest time is declared the winner. Lundup started 111th among the 113 competitors.

The 27-year-old marks India’s fifth cross-country skier at the Winter Olympics. Previous Indian representatives include Bahadur Gurung Gupta (78th, 2006), Tashi Lundup (83rd, 2010), and Nadeem Iqbal (85th) and Jagdish Singh (99th) in 2014 and 2018, respectively.

Lundup earned India’s quota spot through his performance at last year’s FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Norway and was selected by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the Milano Cortina Games.

India’s campaign at the 2026 Winter Olympics concludes on Monday, with Mohammad Arif Khan competing in the men’s slalom alpine skiing event. This will be Arif Khan’s second Winter Games appearance, having previously represented India in slalom and giant slalom at Beijing 2022.

The 35-year-old Italian soared to victory on Thursday at the foggy Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre, with France’s Romane Miradoli taking silver and Austria’s Cornelia Hütter earning bronze.

Brignone’s path back to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. In April 2025, she suffered multiple leg fractures and a torn anterior cruciate ligament at the Italian Championships, forcing her to miss much of the competitive season. Yet, just three weeks ago, she returned to World Cup competition in Kronplatz, competing in the giant slalom on 20 January.

After a 10th-place finish in the downhill on Sunday, 8 February, Brignone bounced back in today’s super-G, demonstrating skill, speed, and composure under pressure.

“It’s something incredible,” Brignone said after her victory. “I only thought about skiing, about giving it my all. I told myself it was all or nothing, but I would never have imagined winning. Something special — I never would have pictured it in my life.”

Reflecting on her mindset, she added, “I didn’t feel like I was missing Olympic gold in my career. I knew I’d already achieved the maximum, and that’s exactly why I was calm. I considered myself an outsider. I tried to do my best — I wasn’t perfect, but I focused on taking the fastest lines possible.”

Brignone’s triumph is a testament to resilience and determination, inspiring fans worldwide as she continues to compete at the highest level despite previous setbacks.

The resort’s regular winter season is set to conclude on May 18, with summer skiing scheduled to run from June 20 to July 5.

Kendra Scurfield, a spokesperson for Sunshine Village, said the abundant snowpack gave the resort confidence to plan the 16-day summer season. “It was a fairytale season,” she said. “And the snow kept on coming and coming and coming.”

During the summer session, Sunshine Village plans to operate the Strawberry Express chairlift and several ski runs. Additional details about available slopes and schedules will be released in the coming weeks.

Sunshine Village is uniquely positioned to offer summer skiing due to its high elevation above the tree line, which helps preserve snow longer than other resorts. John Pomeroy, a University of Saskatchewan professor who studies precipitation in the Rockies, noted that higher elevations in the area receive nearly double the snowfall compared with nearby valley towns like Banff and Canmore.

This will mark only the second summer ski season at Sunshine Village in nearly 35 years. The last time was in 2022, when heavy snowfall allowed the resort to open for a brief six-day period over the Canada Day weekend. That event drew crowds eager to experience skiing in midsummer, with some visitors even hitting the slopes in shorts. “It was pretty wild and a little bit unusual and very Canadian,” Scurfield said.

The resort’s summer skiing plans highlight the enduring appeal of Banff’s high-altitude terrain and its ability to extend the ski season beyond typical winter months. For enthusiasts and tourists alike, it presents a rare opportunity to enjoy world-class skiing well into the summer, combining the thrill of the slopes with the stunning Rockies backdrop.

Alpine skiing remains the federation’s largest discipline with 94 athletes—52 men and 42 women—followed by ski jumping with 40 athletes, biathlon with 38, snowboarding with 35, and Nordic combined with 32.

“The official announcement of the squads signals the start of a new season,” said ÖSV Sports Director Mario Stecher.

“After the Olympic Games, several successful athletes retired, which is a natural progression in competitive sports. With the new squad structure, we have a balanced mix of experienced performers and promising young talents.”

Stecher added that the team is well-positioned for a successful World Championship season, with high expectations for both established athletes and newcomers.

The announcement highlights Austria’s continued investment in winter sports, combining veteran expertise with emerging talent to maintain its competitive edge internationally.

The five-time Olympian is currently recovering from a complex tibia fracture sustained during the Olympic downhill at Milano Cortina 2026 on February 8.

Vonn underwent a series of corrective surgeries and has been working diligently on her rehabilitation. Remarkably, she returned to the gym less than a month after her injury.

At 41, Vonn has stated that she has yet to make a decision about her future in competitive skiing, noting, “Nothing would really happen until ’27-28,” leaving retirement as a possible option.

She joins fellow top athletes on the U.S. Alpine team’s A Team, including Mikaela Shiffrin, three-time Olympic gold medallist and reigning World Cup overall champion, and Olympic downhill champion Breezy Johnson.

Athletes who accept the nomination and meet team requirements will be officially confirmed in October. The 2026-27 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is scheduled to begin with a giant slalom on the Rettenbach Glacier in Sölden, Austria, starting October 25.

Based at 351 River Road in Southbury, LOF is excited to launch its summer water skiing programs.

The season will begin with Volunteer Training Day on June 6 at 9 a.m., welcoming new and returning volunteers.

Attendees will learn essential safety protocols, skiing techniques, and get hands-on experience with adaptive equipment. No prior experience is necessary, and participation is free.

Following training, LOF will transition into full-time skiing events starting in mid-June. The program includes opportunities for both group and individual participation. Individuals should check LOF’s social media for dates of Open Events, when anyone, regardless of age or ability, is welcome to take part.

A highlight of the season is a special two-day skiing event on June 26 and 27, featuring two days of skiing, a banquet, and a barbecue, promising fun and community for all participants.

In Spain, the Balearic Marine Cluster is partnering with Astilleros de Mallorca, STP Shipyard Palma, and Club de Mar Mallorca to deliver a diverse programme across the Balearic Islands.

Attendees will enjoy guided shipyard tours, sailing activations, workshops, and cultural events, providing unique insight into both the technical and social sides of boating.

With events like these, World Boating Day 2026 is set to reach more people than ever, celebrating the joy, adventure, and community found on the water.

The name reflects more than just the boat’s livery; it embodies Heer’s racing philosophy.

For him, performance starts long before the start line, rooted in mindset, resilience, and the willingness to navigate uncertainty.

The concept was forged during Heer’s 2024 Vendée Globe campaign, where overcoming setbacks, adapting under pressure, and focusing on controllable factors were central to success.

“When we looked back at our previous campaign, it became clear that people strongly associated me with a positive mindset,” Heer said. “That’s a very authentic reflection of who I am. Even in difficult moments, I look for opportunities where others might only see adversity.”

The IMOCA’s name came naturally: Embrace The Challenge captures both the spirit of offshore sailing and a philosophy for everyday life.
