Ukraine Sees Declining Demand for US-Imported Used Cars as Ford Escape Remains Top Choice

by Shreeya

Demand for used cars imported from the United States has declined in Ukraine since the start of 2026, signaling a shift in consumer preferences and market trends. Market data shows that Ukrainians purchased 9,467 US-used vehicles during this period, with the average imported car being approximately seven years old.

While American imports have traditionally been popular, recent figures indicate a cooling trend. The Ford Escape continues to lead the segment, valued for its affordability, practicality, and strong presence in US auction markets, making it a consistent favorite among Ukrainian buyers.

Industry experts suggest that the decline in demand is linked to broader economic pressures, including currency fluctuations, rising logistics costs, and shifting consumer priorities. Although imported vehicles remain an attractive alternative to new cars, increasing total ownership costs are making them less accessible for some buyers.

Competition from European used cars and domestic options is also influencing purchasing decisions. Consumers are evaluating vehicles based not only on price but also on maintenance expenses, fuel efficiency, and long-term reliability. This has prompted a more cautious approach to buying US-imported cars from overseas auctions.

The continued popularity of the Ford Escape reflects a larger trend in Ukraine’s used car market, where compact SUVs remain in high demand due to their versatility for both urban and rural driving. However, analysts caution that unless economic conditions improve or import costs stabilize, demand for US-used vehicles is likely to remain subdued throughout 2026.
