The BMW iX3 has secured a major milestone in the global automotive industry, winning both the 2026 World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle of the Year titles in a rare double triumph determined by a jury of 98 international automotive journalists.
The awards were announced at the New York International Auto Show, a key global platform where top new vehicles are assessed across multiple categories. The iX3 emerged as the overall winner from a competitive field of 57 contenders, highlighting its broad appeal across performance, design and innovation criteria.
In the electric vehicle category, the model outperformed established competitors such as the Nissan Leaf and Mercedes-Benz CLA, underscoring its growing influence in the rapidly expanding EV market.
Judges commended the iX3 for its combination of driving performance, advanced technology and forward-looking design. A key factor behind its success is BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, which forms the foundation for the brand’s next generation of electric vehicles.
The iX3 offers a driving range of up to 800 kilometers and supports ultra-fast charging capabilities of up to 400 kW. It also introduces new in-car technologies, including the Panoramic iDrive display system and the “Heart of Joy” control architecture, designed to enhance responsiveness and driving dynamics.
Since its debut in March, the electric SUV has recorded more than 50,000 orders, signaling strong early demand. With this latest achievement, BMW has now accumulated nine World Car Awards over the past 22 years, further cementing its position as a leading force in the global automotive sector.
