Volvo Car UK has introduced the all-new Volvo EX30 Cargo, a fully electric, car-derived van designed for businesses and fleet operators. Based on the compact EX30 SUV, the EX30 Cargo combines practicality with surprising performance, offering up to 428 horsepower in its range-topping variant.
The conversion is carried out by Volvo Car UK as a second-stage process, separate from the SUV’s original build. To create a functional cargo space, the rear seats have been removed, resulting in a flat load floor. An additional access panel opens to a lower storage compartment, maximizing usable volume.
Despite its high performance, the EX30 Cargo remains a practical van. It offers a payload capacity of up to 390kg and a cargo volume of 1 cubic metre once the rear seats are removed. A full bulkhead separates the cabin from the load area, while reworked rear side panels, wider-opening doors, and an integrated load area work light improve accessibility. An underfloor subframe adds mounting and securing points for enhanced cargo management.
The EX30 Cargo retains Volvo’s SUV powertrain options. Buyers can choose from the new P3 Extended Range unit producing 150hp (available in Model Year 2027), the existing P5 powertrain with 272hp, or the high-performance P8 all-wheel-drive variant with 428hp. Depending on the version, Volvo claims a driving range of up to 300 miles.
The EX30 Cargo is available in both standard and Cross Country trims, the latter providing increased ground clearance. Conversion is offered for both new orders and existing vehicles, covering Model Year 2026 and Model Year 2027 cars. Trim levels include Core, Plus, and Cross Country Plus.
Core models come with adaptive cruise control, Google Automotive Services, a rear parking camera with park assist, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 11kW onboard charger, and a heat pump. They ride on 18-inch Aero alloy wheels, giving the entry-level model a surprisingly premium feel for a van.
Plus trims add Pilot Assist, Digital Key Plus, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a Harman Kardon sound system, dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, and exterior touches like a dual-tone roof and 19-inch Aero alloy wheels.
Volvo emphasizes that the EX30 Cargo meets its strict safety standards and has undergone additional testing following the conversion to ensure all systems operate safely.
The EX30 Cargo is priced from £36,010 for the P5 standard-range model and is available exclusively through Volvo Car UK’s fleet sales channels.
Volvo’s move adds to the growing market for car-derived electric vans, following recent entries like the Renault 4 Cargo and Ford’s new Explorer Van. Other small EV conversions spotted in Europe include the Renault Twingo Cargo, Citroen e-C3, and KGM Rexton Commercial.
