Mercedes-Benz is expanding its premium van lineup with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz VLS, a flagship model revealed shortly after the introduction of the VLE earlier this month. Notably, the automaker confirmed that the VLS will feature a high-end Maybach variant, signaling an ambitious push into the ultra-luxury electric vehicle segment.
While official specifications are still limited, Mercedes-Benz has positioned the VLS as a vehicle designed to elevate its “grand limousine” vans to new heights of sophistication. The model promises a combination of timeless design, first-class interiors, advanced digital technology, and a superior rear-seat experience, reflecting a growing trend among luxury automakers to redefine high-end mobility beyond traditional sedans and SUVs.
Passenger comfort is expected to be a key focus, particularly in the rear cabin. Mercedes-Benz describes this area as an “extraordinary private lounge,” featuring premium materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and refined design. Although exact features have yet to be disclosed, the VLS is anticipated to expand on the VLE’s private jet-inspired interior, which includes reclining seats with footrests, pillows, and integrated wireless charging.
Luxury amenities are expected to include a center console, refrigerated compartment, and an advanced infotainment system. Drawing inspiration from the Mercedes Vision V concept, the VLS could feature a massive 65-inch display and a high-end 42-speaker audio system. Additional touches such as wood trim, metallic accents, and top-quality leather upholstery will further reinforce the model’s ultra-luxury positioning.
In terms of scale, the VLS is expected to surpass the VLE, which already measures over 5.3 meters in length with a long wheelbase for maximum interior space. A larger version of the VLE is reportedly in development, suggesting that the VLS will offer even more cabin room, placing it closer to luxury limousines than conventional vans.
Although Mercedes-Benz has yet to confirm the powertrain, industry speculation points to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing around 409 horsepower and a battery pack of approximately 115 kWh, shared with higher-end VLE variants. Advanced electrical architecture, including 800-volt technology, could support ultra-fast charging at DC speeds exceeding 300 kW, significantly reducing charging times for long-distance travel. Features such as AirMatic air suspension and rear-axle steering are also expected to enhance ride comfort and maneuverability despite the van’s large dimensions.
The Mercedes-Benz VLS represents a strategic effort to redefine the luxury van segment. By merging cutting-edge electric technology with Maybach-level refinement, the automaker aims to create a new category of high-end mobility tailored to both private owners and executive transport services.
