In January 2026, used EV sales in the U.S. reached 31,503 units, marking a 21.2% increase from January 2025 and a 20.8% jump from December 2025. This surge comes as the average price for a new vehicle hit $49,353 in February, highlighting the growing appeal of more budget-friendly EV options.
By comparison, the average price of a used EV in the United States hovers around $28,000–$29,000, according to Recharged.com. Meanwhile, the typical used gas-powered car averages over $29,099, according to Cars.com, making EVs a financially attractive alternative.
