The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has introduced a fully equipped mobile cancer screening unit to improve early detection of breast and cervical cancers in underserved areas of Gautam Budh Nagar and nearby districts, officials said Saturday.
Inaugurated earlier this week, the van is designed to bring diagnostic services to communities where access remains limited. It features an X-ray unit, mammography equipment, a colposcopy setup, laboratory testing facilities, and dedicated spaces for patient examinations, officials added.
Dr (Brig) Rakesh Gupta, director of GIMS Greater Noida, said the new unit would extend the hospital’s cancer screening services beyond its campus, reaching more women in need.
The mobile unit was donated by India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Atsushi Nagashima, Yamaha’s corporate director, said, “Through this mobile screening unit, we aim to bridge the gap in access to preventive healthcare and empower individuals with timely diagnosis.”
Officials noted that the van will soon begin outreach visits to high-need areas across the district.
In November, GIMS also expanded two other public health services on its campus: free cataract treatment—including investigations, medicines, and surgery for those unable to afford care—and an authorized Yellow Fever vaccination facility, launched to meet growing demand from travelers.
“These initiatives are part of GIMS’s broader effort to widen access to essential and preventive healthcare,” officials said.
