Luxury Electric SUVs Gain Ground as Lucid Enhances Gravity and Bentley Prepares New Model

by Shreeya

The luxury electric vehicle (EV) market is witnessing significant developments with key players like Lucid Motors and Bentley making bold moves, while service providers such as CARSTAR expand support for these advanced vehicles. These trends signal growing consumer interest and industry commitment to luxury EVs, particularly in the SUV segment.

Lucid Motors recently announced that it is enhancing the features of its Gravity SUV without increasing prices. At the 2026 New York Auto Show, Lucid revealed that it will include previously optional extras like the DreamDrive 2 Premium advanced driver assistance system at no additional cost for its Touring and Grand Touring trims. This move effectively folds over $1,500 worth of features into the base price, reflecting competitive pressures in the luxury EV market rather than mere generosity. The Gravity Grand Touring model impresses with a range of up to 450 miles and an 11-minute charge time to add 200 miles, positioning it ahead of rivals such as Tesla’s Model Y and Rivian’s R2.

Lucid also introduced a standardized second key fob following customer feedback, subtly highlighting its attention to detail compared to competitors. The Grand Touring trim starts at nearly $100,000 and offers high performance with 828 horsepower and acceleration from zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Additional feature packages and upcoming subscription-based AI assistants further aim to enhance the luxury ownership experience.

Meanwhile, Bentley is preparing to launch its first fully electric SUV, a smaller, boxier urban model than its current Bentayga. According to Bentley North America CEO Mike Rocco, initial customer reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with eight out of ten potential buyers expressing interest. The new SUV is expected to blend Bentley’s traditional luxury with electrification, but will be marketed simply as the next generation Bentley rather than emphasizing its battery-electric vehicle (BEV) status. This strategic approach may help Bentley navigate the mixed feelings about EVs among some consumers while entering the expanding luxury electric SUV market.

Supporting these vehicle advancements is CARSTAR Canada’s ongoing expansion of certified repair services for electric and luxury vehicles. With nearly 200 original equipment manufacturer (OEM) certifications across its network, CARSTAR is prepared to handle collision repairs for sophisticated brands including Acura, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Tesla, and Vinfast. This growth ensures safe and precise maintenance for the increasing number of luxury EVs on the road.

Industry experts note that these developments reflect broader shifts in consumer preferences and manufacturer strategies toward electrification within the luxury SUV sector. The combination of extended driving ranges, faster charging times, enhanced driver assistance technologies, and improved service infrastructure indicates that luxury EVs are becoming more accessible and appealing to discerning buyers.

As competition intensifies among automakers to capture this lucrative segment, consumers stand to benefit from better features and options without necessarily facing higher costs. The growing acceptance of electrified SUVs by established luxury brands like Bentley alongside innovative startups like Lucid underscores a transformative moment for the automotive industry focused on sustainability and premium performance.
