Consumer Court Case Emerges Over Faulty Range Rover Vogue SV Autobiography

by Shreeya

An owner of the 2023 Range Rover Vogue SV Autobiography LWB Edition has voiced serious concerns about ongoing problems with the luxury SUV since its purchase in January 2023. Despite being marketed as a high-end vehicle capable of both urban and off-road driving, the SUV has faced multiple mechanical and technical failures that have kept it off the road for extended periods. The owner, who prefers to remain anonymous, shared their experience after nearly three years of ownership, revealing frustration with the service provided by the local Authorized Service Center (ASC) and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India.

According to the owner, the issues began immediately after delivery and include suspension failures, malfunctions in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Engine Control Module (ECM), engine component breakdowns, and problems with the cabin environment such as fuel vapors recirculating inside. Additionally, all doors have jammed at various times. The vehicle has been repeatedly taken to the ASC for repairs, but many problems have recurred shortly after supposed fixes. The delays in obtaining replacement parts from JLR’s UK facility have further prolonged downtime, with the SUV sometimes remaining at the service center for up to four months.

The owner’s dissatisfaction led them to approach a consumer court in September 2025 seeking a refund on grounds of manufacturing defects. As of early 2026, the court had not yet delivered a verdict. The vehicle continues to experience issues; most recently, a rear door jammed again in February 2026, resulting in another service visit. Throughout this period, communications between the owner and JLR India reflect escalating frustration due to slow resolutions and persistent faults.

Automotive experts and enthusiasts following this case note that while Range Rover vehicles are praised for their style, luxury, and driving experience, reliability remains a significant concern. The brand has historically ranked low in consumer reliability surveys compared to competitors like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Porsche. Despite improvements over the past decade, many owners report frequent technical problems that impact usability and ownership satisfaction.

This case highlights ongoing challenges faced by premium SUV owners regarding product dependability and after-sales support. It underscores the importance of timely access to spare parts and effective technical assistance in maintaining customer trust for luxury automotive brands. Jaguar Land Rover has yet to publicly respond to this specific complaint but continues to face scrutiny over quality control issues within its Range Rover lineup.
