The perception of used cars has shifted dramatically in recent years, with many vehicles now hitting the market barely a few years old, yet still retaining high quality. This trend extends even to electric vehicles (EVs), with some models proving especially popular among secondhand buyers. According to iSeeCars, the Tesla Model X currently leads the pack as the fastest-selling used car in the U.S.
Used Model X vehicles reportedly spend an average of fewer than 23 days on the market, significantly faster than the typical used car, which spends more than twice that time listed. This rapid turnover is notable, considering that the Model X does not rank among Tesla’s top-selling new models. iSeeCars data indicates that the Model X sells approximately 0.43 times as long as the average used vehicle, suggesting strong demand among buyers willing to overlook past concerns.
Indeed, the Model X has faced quality control scrutiny in recent years. Industry experts once cautioned buyers to steer clear of the model even when new, citing issues with reliability. Yet, despite these warnings, the Model X continues to attract eager buyers in the used market.
Tesla is not alone in dominating the used EV sector. The upcoming Cybertruck ranks third on the iSeeCars tracker, spending just over 27 days on the lot. The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV follows closely, selling nearly twice as fast as the average vehicle with an average listing period of just under 27 days.
Other vehicles rounding out iSeeCars’ top five fastest-selling used cars include the Mazda MX-5 RF, which typically sells in under 30 days, and the Toyota GR Supra, which also moves quickly off the lot with an average of about a month. Supra enthusiasts may want to act fast, as Toyota has officially ended production of the model, potentially increasing its future collectibility.
The data reflects a growing trend: buyers are increasingly turning to high-demand EVs and performance vehicles in the used car market, signaling a shift in how consumers perceive secondhand cars.
