Audi has confirmed that its highly anticipated electric sports car, the Concept C, will enter production in 2027, dispelling recent doubts amid industry-wide EV setbacks and shifting legislation.
CEO Gernot Döllner revealed that Porsche continues to assist in the development of the vehicle, which is expected to become a design milestone for the brand, similar to the iconic Audi TT.
Döllner’s announcement came during Audi’s annual conference, the same event where the company teased the return of the A2 as a compact crossover. While automakers often predict a two-year timeframe for new models, the firm’s commitment to a 2027 production start signals that teasers, specifications, and technical details are likely to emerge gradually from Audi’s Ingolstadt headquarters over the coming year.
Designed under Chief Creative Officer Massimo Frascella, the Concept C represents a significant evolution in Audi’s design language. Frascella has emphasized the importance of tactility in the cabin experience, criticizing oversized digital screens as “technology for the sake of technology.” Reflecting this philosophy, the Concept C features a modest center display that disappears when not in use, maintaining a clean and functional interior.
The Concept C’s exterior design is equally striking, blending straight lines and curves with narrow headlights and taillights that draw attention to the car’s overall form. A prominent upright front grille adds character, while an electrically retractable targa-style roof enhances versatility. Inside, the cabin retains physical controls on the steering wheel, offering a tactile experience that many modern vehicles have abandoned.
Performance details are still emerging. Audi is exploring both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants, though specifics for the production model remain unconfirmed. Positioned between the discontinued R8 supercar and TT sports car, the Concept C aims to fill a unique niche in Audi’s lineup. The official production name has yet to be announced, but with production scheduled for 2027, further information is expected soon.
