Caris Life Sciences Introduces AI-Driven Breast Cancer Signature to Help Predict Chemotherapy Response

Caris Life Sciences, a precision medicine and AI-driven biotechnology company, has introduced a new breast cancer–focused molecular signature designed to help predict how certain patients may respond to chemotherapy. The tool has been added to the company’s Molecular Tumor Board Report, a research-use-only (RUO) profiling resource available to clinicians and researchers upon request when ordering the MI Cancer Seek® test.

The newly added signature is designed to evaluate potential response to capecitabine, an oral chemotherapy commonly used in breast cancer treatment. According to Caris, the model analyzes more than 2,000 gene expression and copy number features derived from a patient’s Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) and Whole Transcriptome Sequencing (WTS) data. It is intended for use in patients with HER2-negative breast cancer being considered for first-line chemotherapy.

AI-Enhanced Insights for Personalized Cancer Treatment

The breast cancer signature is part of the company’s “Caris AI Insights” section, which includes a series of artificial intelligence–powered analytical tools. These tools draw on Caris’ clinico-genomic database to support research into therapy response prediction, tumor origin identification, metastasis risk assessment, and individualized treatment strategies.

“Molecular profiling is a vital step in gaining a comprehensive understanding of a patient’s cancer,” said David Spetzler, President of Caris Life Sciences. He noted that the AI-driven insights are designed to provide clinicians and researchers with a detailed molecular view of tumor biology to inform care decisions and scientific study.

Built on Comprehensive Genomic Profiling

The Molecular Tumor Board Report is an extension of MI Cancer Seek, Caris’ tissue-based assay. The test received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in November 2024 and is described by the company as the first FDA-approved companion diagnostic to simultaneously incorporate Whole Exome and Whole Transcriptome Sequencing for molecular profiling of solid tumors.

By combining broad genomic sequencing with machine learning, Caris aims to uncover patterns that may not be visible through conventional diagnostic methods, supporting the development of more targeted therapies and clinical research approaches.
