BRIT-nominated singer and Celebrity Traitors finalist Cat Burns has shared that she is starting a “new life” following a breast reduction surgery, describing the experience as “overwhelmingly” positive after years of physical and emotional challenges.
The 25-year-old Go singer, who recently reached the final of the BBC reality series alongside winner Alan Carr, revealed on Instagram that she had struggled with discomfort since the age of 12.
Burns said her larger frame caused chronic pain during exercise and contributed to a sense of “oversexualisation” she deeply resented. “I tried so many different ways to work with my body,” she explained, adding that she chose surgery while “young and healthy” to embrace her future fully.
Burns joins a growing number of high-profile women speaking openly about the medical and emotional benefits of breast reduction. England rugby player Rosie Galligan and actresses Drew Barrymore and Ariel Winter have also shared how surgery relieved back pain and helped them reclaim control over their bodies. Winter, in particular, highlighted that before her procedure, media coverage often reduced her identity to her physical appearance rather than her acting achievements.
According to the NHS, breast reduction is a medically recommended procedure for those experiencing shoulder grooves, skin irritation, and significant psychological distress. However, experts have noted that post-pandemic backlogs mean NHS surgery is currently prioritized for the most severe cases, making access challenging for many.
For Burns, whose second album How To Be Human recently reached number five on the charts, the operation marks an important personal milestone. She shared that seeing her family after surgery was an emotional moment and confirmed that she is recovering well. For the London-born singer, the procedure represents more than a medical update—it is the start of a chapter defined by self-love, physical freedom, and renewed confidence.
