A Scottish mother has revealed the terrifying ordeal she endured after a £15,500 breast reduction and reconstruction left her fighting for her life. Lisa Hart, 45, from Ayrshire, said her right breast implant began leaking a “luminous green fluid” just a week after surgery, leading to a severe infection that required emergency removal.
Lisa, a mother of five, decided to undergo the procedure in Glasgow in May 2025 after feeling unhappy with her post-pregnancy body and her size 36E breasts. She booked the four-hour operation at a local clinic, hoping to achieve a body she felt confident in.
However, within days, she noticed a strange discharge seeping through her bandages. The clinic initially reassured her that the symptoms were normal, but her condition worsened. A pea-sized hole developed, accompanied by fever-like symptoms. After weeks of failed attempts to get help from the clinic, Lisa sought treatment at Ayr University Hospital in June 2025. Doctors quickly diagnosed her with sepsis and had no choice but to remove the infected implant.
“There was a point where I thought I would die,” Lisa said. “You hear the horror stories, but I never thought it would happen to me here in Glasgow. I want to raise awareness about the dangers of surgery and ensure clinics are held accountable.”
The procedure has left Lisa with uneven breasts—her right now a B-cup and her left a C-cup. She says she must return to the same clinic for corrective surgery, as no other facility will treat her.
“The entire ordeal has left me with rock-bottom confidence,” Lisa added. “All I wanted was to feel womanly. Now, I can only look back at my old photos and cry. Having the perfect body isn’t important—my message is that everyone is perfect as they are.”
Lisa had chosen UK-based treatment over cheaper options abroad, spending £15,500 in the hope of receiving the best care. She described being discharged just an hour after surgery and first noticing the alarming green-yellow fluid while changing her own bandages. The wound worsened quickly, leaving a hole below her nipple.
Desperate for help, Lisa contacted the clinic multiple times without success. By the time she reached the hospital, her condition had become critical. She spent ten days in hospital and says the ordeal has had a lasting impact on both her physical and mental health, even contributing to stress-related angina.
