Bowen Health recently celebrated the grand opening of its third health clinic in Fort Wayne, expanding access to vital services like mental health care, primary health care, and substance use counseling. Located at 1313 W. Washington Center Road, the clinic is situated in the West Entrance of the former Hall’s Guest House, co-located with the YWCA of Northeast Indiana.
The new facility offers services to all individuals, regardless of their financial circumstances, a core principle of Bowen Health’s mission. Dr. Rob Ryan, Bowen Health president and CEO, emphasized the organization’s unique approach to healthcare, which draws inspiration from Otis R. “Doc” Bowen, a former Indiana governor and physician. Dr. Ryan noted that Bowen Health values strong patient relationships and strives to maintain the “country doctor” philosophy, which focuses on personalized, community-based care.
Additionally, Bowen Health remains committed to mental health and addiction treatment, reflecting the values of Doc Bowen, who was a staunch advocate for integrating mental health services into broader healthcare. This holistic approach aims to ensure comprehensive care for patients, treating both the body and the mind.
Jay Baumgartner, Bowen Health CFO, remarked on the significance of each new clinic opening, calling it a new opportunity to serve patients where they are and make healthcare more accessible. He described these openings as “new beginnings,” with each clinic aiming to improve the community’s overall health and wellbeing.
Judge Andrew Williams of the Allen County Superior Court, a prominent advocate for mental health services, praised Bowen Health for its ongoing efforts to address mental health needs in the region. Williams highlighted the critical importance of mental health services, stating that mental illness affects everyone, regardless of background or socio-economic status.
The new Bowen Health clinic also represents significant progress for the Fort Wayne community in terms of mental health access. Brenda Gerber Vincent, Chief Impact Officer at Greater Fort Wayne, Inc., recalled the challenges the area faced just decades ago when resources for mental health care were limited. She pointed to Bowen Health’s leadership in improving access to mental health care and lauded the clinic’s ability to provide services to the community, regardless of financial ability.
Kylie Riecken, Bowen Health Executive Director, underscored that the clinic is designed with patients in mind. “This space represents an opportunity for every person who walks through our doors to know they are valued,” she said. The clinic focuses on breaking down barriers to care, ensuring that services are both available and accessible to everyone in the community, including those with limited financial means.
One of the major improvements tied to the clinic’s opening was the installation of public transportation services, which was made possible through a partnership between Bowen Health, the YWCA, and Citilink. The clinic is now one of the busiest bus stops in Fort Wayne, offering increased accessibility for individuals who rely on public transportation. This partnership highlights the power of community collaboration to improve healthcare access.
Shannon Hannon, Bowen Health COO, emphasized the importance of collaboration in making the clinic a reality. She praised the shared commitment to improving healthcare in the community and noted that by working alongside the YWCA, Bowen Health can offer more coordinated, accessible, and responsive care.
