A growing number of people in Solukhumbu district are being diagnosed with hypertension, asthma, diabetes, and heart diseases, according to recent findings from a two-day free health camp held in Sotang Rural Municipality–2 and 5.
The health camp, organized by the Nepal Heart Foundation, Patan Rotary Club, Medicare Hospital, and Chapel Foundation, saw around 500 patients undergoing various health check-ups.
Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi, a senior cardiologist, reported that nearly 70% of those examined had high blood pressure, while approximately 50% were suffering from asthma-related issues. Heart disease was found in 30% of the cases, and 15% were diagnosed with diabetes.
Dr. Regmi also shared that 8% of the patients had congenital heart disease, while 5% had rheumatic heart disease.
In addition to adult screenings, the camp also provided health check-ups for about 2,500 children from 15 local schools. Of these children, 20 were found to have heart issues, and four were in urgent need of surgery.
Patients received vital services such as echocardiograms (ECHO) and electrocardiograms (ECG), while medications worth approximately Rs 500,000 were donated by Lomus Pharma and distributed free of charge.
