For men struggling with an enlarged prostate, nights of disrupted sleep, frequent bathroom trips, and reduced confidence may soon be a thing of the past. AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway is now offering a groundbreaking, minimally invasive procedure that provides relief without the risks associated with major surgery.
The procedure, known as prostate artery embolization (PAE), is performed by Dr. Kyle Burton, an interventional radiologist with AdventHealth Medical Group. Burton is currently the only physician performing PAE in AdventHealth’s East Florida Division.
“PAE represents an important advancement in treating enlarged prostate,” said Burton. “Patients in Flagler County now have access to cutting-edge care with fewer risks, shorter recovery times, and more treatment options — without having to wait months or travel far from home.”
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate, affects millions of men nationwide. The condition can cause weak urinary flow, frequent urges to urinate, and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. Severe cases have traditionally required surgery, such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), which involves general anesthesia, a hospital stay, and higher risks of complications like incontinence.
PAE, in contrast, is performed on an outpatient basis under light sedation. Using a catheter, Dr. Burton blocks small blood vessels supplying the prostate, causing the gland to shrink. Patients typically go home the same day.
AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway also offers Aquablation therapy, a robotic-assisted procedure introduced in 2023 that uses a heat-free waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue. While Aquablation remains a vital option, PAE is expanding treatment choices for men in Flagler County, allowing care tailored to individual needs.
Nearly one in three Flagler County residents is over age 65, according to AdventHealth’s 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment. For many, BPH can disrupt sleep, daily routines, and overall quality of life. By offering advanced treatments like PAE and Aquablation locally, AdventHealth ensures patients can access state-of-the-art care without leaving the community.
Since January, Dr. Burton has performed more than 65 PAE procedures using cone beam CT imaging, the only technology of its kind in Flagler County. He anticipates performing even more in the coming months and plans are underway to expand PAE access to additional AdventHealth locations, including AdventHealth Palm Coast.
