During Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. David Taub, MD, FACS, urologist and director of urologic oncology and robotic surgery at the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute at Baptist Health, highlighted the benefits of a multimodal approach to prostate cancer treatment.

Dr. Taub emphasized that a comprehensive strategy is increasingly important given the expanding range of treatment options across various stages of the disease.

“At Baptist Health, our multimodal approach significantly improves patient care and physician collaboration,” Taub said. “It allows specialists to actively evaluate and discuss the best treatment paths for each individual, fostering shared decision-making.”

Patients benefit from this integrated system, which provides personalized guidance and access to a wide array of professionals, including nutritionists, social workers, and genetic counselors. Taub described this collaborative “whole team approach” as essential for achieving meaningful improvements in patient outcomes.

He also noted the growing role of genomic testing in prostate cancer care. Unlike traditional genetic testing that identifies inherited risk factors, such as BRCA mutations, genomic testing examines the tumor’s DNA to evaluate the likelihood of disease progression.

This detailed insight into a tumor’s biology enables clinicians to tailor therapies to each patient’s specific cancer profile, enhancing precision in treatment planning, Taub explained.
