After losing his wife of 35 years in 2020, a man in his 60s saw his health decline rapidly. Over two years, he gained significant weight and felt constantly tired.
By August 2022, he struggled to keep up with his grandkids and feared a future of inactivity. Although he had run marathons in his youth, even running half a mile seemed impossible. Faced with this reality, he decided to change his life.
His 60th birthday became a turning point. Determined to enjoy his 70s and stay active for his six children and three grandchildren, he set a clear goal: to run a full mile without stopping.
He committed to daily exercise, mixing weightlifting, running, biking, and swimming to stay motivated and avoid boredom.
A key motivator was signing up for a Disney challenge run with his daughter—a two-day event including a 10k and a half-marathon. This gave him a long-term target to work toward.
He also discovered Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS) workouts at BODY20. These 20-minute sessions helped him feel every muscle working, improving his body awareness and fitness.
Since starting in 2022, he has lost over 60 pounds and reduced his body fat from 39% to 17%. He credits three main tips for his success:
Set a Race Goal: Having a race to prepare for keeps motivation high and provides a sense of accomplishment. Even small events can be rewarding and fun, encouraging continued effort.
Do Something Every Day: Flexibility matters. On days when motivation is low, doing any form of exercise—whether weightlifting, running, or biking—helps maintain consistency and enjoyment.
Choose Fresh Foods: Eating whole foods like steak, chicken, vegetables, and salads helps control weight better than relying on frozen meals or snacks. He avoids keeping unhealthy snacks at home and allows occasional treats to maintain balance.
He emphasizes that age is no barrier to improving health. Our habits shape how we age, and making positive changes can reverse decline. For him, losing weight and exercising regularly has not only improved his body but also increased his joy in life. He feels he has taken control of his health and future.
