Alpine skiing star Lindsey Vonn has been nominated to the 48-member U.S. Alpine skiing team for the 2026-27 season, the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association announced Wednesday, May 6. While selection is largely seen as procedural, it does not guarantee her participation in upcoming competitions.
The five-time Olympian is currently recovering from a complex tibia fracture sustained during the Olympic downhill at Milano Cortina 2026 on February 8.
Vonn underwent a series of corrective surgeries and has been working diligently on her rehabilitation. Remarkably, she returned to the gym less than a month after her injury.
At 41, Vonn has stated that she has yet to make a decision about her future in competitive skiing, noting, “Nothing would really happen until ’27-28,” leaving retirement as a possible option.
She joins fellow top athletes on the U.S. Alpine team’s A Team, including Mikaela Shiffrin, three-time Olympic gold medallist and reigning World Cup overall champion, and Olympic downhill champion Breezy Johnson.
Athletes who accept the nomination and meet team requirements will be officially confirmed in October. The 2026-27 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is scheduled to begin with a giant slalom on the Rettenbach Glacier in Sölden, Austria, starting October 25.
