The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that Myanmar’s HPV vaccination program, aimed at preventing cervical cancer, will continue in 2026 with an extended age range up to 18 years.
Since 2023, girls aged 9 to 11 have been vaccinated annually through school-based and community-based programs, Union Minister Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win said at a ceremony at the Myanmar Convention Centre in Yangon.
Dr. Thet emphasized the importance of strengthening community-based vaccination efforts. The HPV Multi-Age Cohort (HPV MAC) program will expand in August and September 2026 to include girls aged 9 to 18.
In 2025, 58,024 girls aged 9 to 11 in Yangon Region received the cervical cancer vaccine.
The MOH also provides routine vaccinations for children under one, tetanus-diphtheria shots for school-age children, COVID-19 vaccines, oral cholera vaccines, tetanus vaccines, and rabies vaccines across all age groups, following a Life Cycle Approach. The government funds 13 types of vaccines, spending approximately $10 million.
