Online Doctor Reveals 5 Warning Signs of Bowel Cancer

by Shreeya

An online doctor has shared five key warning signs of bowel cancer, urging people to seek medical advice if they notice any of them. Early detection, he explained, can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes.

What is bowel cancer?

Bowel cancer, also known as colorectal cancer, is one of the most common forms of cancer. According to Cancer Research UK, about 44,100 people are diagnosed with it each year, and it causes roughly 16,800 deaths annually. Alarmingly, cases are rising among people under 50.

The five warning signs to watch for

Dr. Karan Rajan, a physician who shares health information online, highlighted the following symptoms:

  • Persistent tummy pain – ongoing abdominal discomfort that does not go away.
  • Unintentional weight loss – losing weight without dieting or exercise changes.
  • Unexplained fatigue – ongoing tiredness caused by blood loss and low iron levels.
  • Rectal bleeding – blood in the stool should never be ignored or assumed to be hemorrhoids.
  • Changes in bowel habits – constipation, diarrhea, or changes in stool consistency lasting for weeks.

Reducing your risk

While not all cases can be prevented, lifestyle changes may lower your risk. Dr. Rajan suggests:

  • Eating more fiber-rich foods
  • Quitting smoking and vaping
  • Limiting alcohol intake
  • Checking your stool regularly so you know what’s normal for you

When to see a doctor

If you experience any of these symptoms, experts recommend contacting your GP or healthcare provider as soon as possible. Early screening and medical attention could save your life.
