A new player has entered the rapidly expanding restomod market, as British startup Audacious Automotive reveals its debut project: a heavily reengineered Audi Quattro that blends classic rally heritage with modern high-performance engineering.
Restomod specialists have increasingly turned their attention to iconic nameplates in recent years, reimagining everything from Porsche 911s to Ford Broncos and even exotic Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Audacious Automotive is taking a different route, focusing on rally-bred performance by reviving one of Audi’s most legendary models.
The company’s project, still under development, aims to retain the unmistakable styling of the original Audi Quattro while integrating advanced components from the B7-generation Audi RS4. According to company founder Mac Zaglewski, the goal is to create a machine that delivers both nostalgia and cutting-edge performance.
At the heart of the transformation is a major powertrain overhaul. The Quattro’s original 2.1-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine will be replaced with a 4.2-liter V8 sourced from the RS4, originally producing 414 horsepower. Audacious plans to push performance even further by adding a supercharger, targeting an output of at least 600 horsepower. The car will also retain a manual transmission, appealing to driving purists.
The exterior receives equally extensive modifications. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Audi S1 Quattro of Group B rally fame, the redesigned body features a more aggressive front fascia, a new grille, enlarged air intakes, and pronounced flared wheel arches. These changes significantly enhance the car’s visual presence while hinting at its performance capabilities.
At the rear, the restomod adopts a louvered rear window, a prominent rear wing, a bespoke diffuser, and dual exhaust outlets. Beyond aesthetics, these upgrades are engineered to improve aerodynamics and cooling efficiency.
Despite the addition of modern components, weight reduction remains a priority. The company claims the revised body structure will make the car at least 250 kilograms lighter than a standard B7 RS4, potentially delivering sharp handling to match its substantial power increase.
This level of craftsmanship and performance comes at a steep price. Audacious Automotive estimates a starting cost of approximately $466,000 for the build, excluding the donor Audi Quattro and RS4 required for the conversion.
With its combination of heritage design, modern engineering, and extreme performance, the project underscores the continued evolution of the restomod industry—where classic icons are being reborn with supercar-level capabilities.
