General Motors is preparing to make waves in the sports car segment with the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, now confirmed to feature a new 6.7-liter LS6 V8 engine. The announcement comes from insights shared during GM’s recent dealer meetings, alongside updates on the engine’s rollout across other upcoming models, including the all-new fifth-generation 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
For Corvette enthusiasts, the biggest news is the arrival of a new Grand Sport variant. Early rumors had suggested both 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter engines, but the latest information confirms that the larger 6.7-liter V8 will be the centerpiece of the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport. Spied prototypes and leaks indicate that Chevrolet plans to reintroduce the Grand Sport with a performance-focused twist, called the Grand Sport X (GSX).
The GSX is expected to combine the 6.7L small-block V8 with an electric motor, creating an eAWD hybrid system. According to multiple GM insiders, the conventional 6.7L engine will produce 535 horsepower, a noticeable increase over the current Stingray’s 490 horsepower (495 with the performance exhaust).
The hybrid GSX version, pairing the V8 with a 186-horsepower front electric motor—previously seen in the Corvette ZR1X—will deliver a combined output of at least 721 horsepower, surpassing the existing 670-hp Z06.
GM’s strategy appears to position the Grand Sport as a more powerful alternative to the Stingray, while the GSX could replace the outgoing E-Ray model. Looking ahead, Chevrolet may expand the lineup further with a potential Z06X model, rumored to offer around 850 horsepower by combining a high-output V8 with electric assistance.
With General Motors’ annual automotive conference underway in Las Vegas, more details about the Corvette Grand Sport X and the new 6.7L LS6 engine are expected to emerge, solidifying the brand’s commitment to high-performance innovation across both traditional and hybrid drivetrains.
