After a major lineup refresh in 2024 and 2025 with more than 20 new and updated models, Audi is gearing up for another ambitious year in 2026. The German luxury automaker plans to introduce several key models, including the first-ever Audi Q9 flagship SUV, the A2 e-tron compact electric car, the third-generation Q7, a facelifted Q4 e-tron, and the already-unveiled RS 5 high-performance model.
Q9: Audi’s Flagship SUV Debuts in the U.S. First
The Audi Q9 represents a strategic milestone for the brand. Not only will it serve as Audi’s flagship SUV—potentially filling the gap left by the A8 luxury sedan—but it will also mark the company’s first global model to launch in the U.S. before Europe, according to CEO Gernot Döllner.
“Launching the Q9 in the United States highlights the market’s importance for full-size luxury SUVs,” Döllner said at Audi’s annual media conference on March 17.
The Q9 will compete with premium rivals such as the Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, and luxury body-on-frame models like the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Lexus LX. Alongside the next-generation Q7 and Q3 models arriving stateside in 2026, the Q9 is expected to make Audi’s U.S. SUV lineup the youngest in the market.
Designed for America, Built in Slovakia
Despite being tailored for U.S. buyers, the Q9 will be manufactured at Volkswagen Group’s Bratislava plant in Slovakia, sharing its Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture with Porsche’s upcoming K1 SUV. The same plant will produce the next-generation Q7.
Powertrain options for the Q9 are expected to include turbocharged V6 engines with mild-hybrid technology and potential plug-in hybrid variants. Performance-oriented models such as the SQ9 and Horch-tuned top trim may offer V8 engines, positioning them against the Mercedes-Maybach GLS.
Spacious, Luxurious, and Tech-Forward
U.S. dealers have long requested a three-row Audi SUV, and the Q9 will deliver with standard three-row seating, plus six- and seven-seat configurations for maximum versatility. The cabin promises premium materials, advanced infotainment via Audi’s latest MMI system, customizable digital displays, and a full suite of ADAS safety features. Rear passengers in the six-seat layout are expected to enjoy the most luxurious appointments, including second-row captain’s chairs.
Styling cues will reflect Audi’s contemporary SUV design language, similar to the Q3 and Q5, but adapted for the Q9’s longer, wider proportions. Spy photos suggest features like split LED headlights, a broad grille, muscular shoulders, and flush-mounted door handles.
The Audi Q9 is set for a global unveiling in the second half of 2026, with U.S. deliveries scheduled before year-end. The rest of the world is expected to receive the SUV in 2027.
