Mercedes-AMG is preparing to push its CLE lineup to unprecedented heights with the announcement of a limited-edition CLE 63 coupe. While the current CLE 53 delivers a robust 443 horsepower from its 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo engine, the new CLE 63 is expected to raise the stakes with an estimated 646 hp output. Production will be extremely limited, with only 30 units set for global release.
The announcement came from Mercedes-AMG’s Sindelfingen headquarters during a briefing for U.S. and Canadian dealers. Although the company has not officially confirmed the engine, the high power figure strongly indicates a V8 configuration. Industry insiders suggest it may feature a version of the new V8 found in the S-Class, which uses a flat-plane crank inspired by racing technology. For context, the outgoing C63 S with a 503-hp V8 reaches 60 mph in under four seconds, illustrating the kind of performance enthusiasts can expect from the CLE 63.
This exclusive model falls under Mercedes-AMG’s Mythos sub-brand, which focuses on ultra-low volume, high-performance vehicles. The CLE 63 joins a growing lineup of AMG products aimed at reasserting the division’s performance heritage after recent years of four-cylinder hybrid engines and EV designs that struggled to excite enthusiasts.
Other Upcoming AMG Models
In addition to the CLE 63, Mercedes-AMG previewed several other high-performance models. The AMG G63 Cabriolet, the first drop-top G-Wagen for the U.S., is scheduled for a 2028 debut and will feature a twin-turbo V8. Meanwhile, three electric AMG GT 63 models are in the pipeline, including a coupe for early 2027, a crossover later in the year, and a sporty coupe-style SUV expected in 2028. These EVs will adopt a sharper, more aggressive design language and are expected to feature axial flux motors with ranges exceeding 400 miles on a full charge.
Additionally, a halo GT Black Series model is in development, promising extreme performance and track-ready modifications. Mercedes-AMG plans to maintain its combustion engine offerings, with a new V8 slated for 2027 despite tightening European emissions standards.
