Nicki Minaj has renewed public discussion about beauty standards, cosmetic procedures and personal image, as both the rapper and a leading plastic surgeon weighed in on her physical transformation over the years.
The Grammy-nominated artist has long been candid about undergoing certain cosmetic procedures earlier in her career. Minaj has previously revealed she had a breast reduction and received buttock injections from an unlicensed practitioner—an experience she later described as “insane,” attributing the decision to intense pressure within hip-hop culture to conform to specific body ideals.
In recent commentary to Mirror US, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Shokrian, founder of Millennial Plastic Surgery in New York City and Miami, suggested Minaj may have undergone additional procedures beyond those she has publicly acknowledged. Based on his professional assessment, he estimated the total cost of potential treatments could reach approximately $155,000.
Dr. Shokrian said the rapper may have had multiple Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures, in which fat is transferred from other areas of the body to enhance the buttocks. He noted that such surgeries typically range from $15,000 to $20,000 per procedure.
He also pointed to the possibility of an abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, which removes excess skin and tightens abdominal muscles. According to Dr. Shokrian, that surgery generally costs between $15,000 and $25,000.
Additionally, he referenced Minaj’s past statements about traveling outside the United States for buttock injections, suggesting she may later have required bio-polymer removal—a complex corrective surgery used to extract injected substances. He estimated that such a procedure can cost between $70,000 and $80,000.
Despite ongoing speculation, Minaj has firmly denied undergoing certain procedures, including rhinoplasty. Addressing rumors about her nose in earlier interviews, she credited makeup artistry rather than surgery for changes in appearance. Speaking to Extra in 2013, she said contouring techniques can dramatically reshape facial features, comparing the effect to transformations seen on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
More recently, Minaj has also attributed her nose shape to genetics, noting in a 2024 interview that she has had the same features since birth and linking certain characteristics to her heritage.
Beyond cosmetic discussions, fans have observed an evolution in the artist’s styling and public image, including changes in fashion choices and hair color that signal a shift toward a more conservative aesthetic.
Minaj has not publicly responded to the surgeon’s latest claims, but her earlier remarks have emphasized personal agency and the cultural pressures that shaped decisions made at the start of her career.
