South Korean broadcaster An Seon-young has candidly shared her experience with cosmetic procedures over the past 25 years, including a distressing side effect from a hair transplant she underwent ahead of her wedding.
In a video uploaded on the afternoon of the 18th to her YouTube channel, This Is An Seon-young, titled “Spending the Price of a Car at the Dermatologist: Procedures Worth Every Won and the Heartbreaking Story of a Failed Treatment,” An reflected on both the benefits and risks of aesthetic treatments she has personally funded.
“Among the procedures I’ve paid for with my own money, I can now talk about the best and the worst,” she said, framing aging as a process similar to maintaining a house or car. “The older you get, the more maintenance costs increase. No matter how much you clean and polish, it can look worn without proper repairs.”
An drew particular attention when recounting what she described as a “hair transplant horror story” from 2013, shortly before her wedding. Wanting a fuller hairline to suit a side-swept bridal hairstyle, she opted for a transplant procedure that was still relatively new at the time.
According to An, the results were far from what she expected. “Because it was an early-generation procedure, the hair was planted in clumps, like rice seedlings,” she explained. “Hair taken from the back of my head started growing on my forehead like body hair.”
She recalled the timing as especially stressful, noting that her wedding photo shoot was scheduled for the following month, with the ceremony just 100 days away. “It was a nightmare,” she said.
The broadcaster added that she ultimately had to undergo additional laser hair removal treatments—at her own expense—to correct the outcome.
By sharing her experience, An said she hopes to offer honest insight into cosmetic procedures, emphasizing the importance of careful decision-making and awareness of potential side effects.
