Italian social media influencer Yulia Burtseva has died following a cosmetic surgery procedure performed at a private clinic in Moscow. Burtseva, who gained a large following by sharing her family life online, was 38 years old and lived in Naples, Italy. She reportedly traveled to Moscow earlier this week for cosmetic surgery, but her condition worsened shortly after the procedure. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was later declared dead.
Russian authorities have begun an official investigation into the circumstances of Burtseva’s death. The Moscow Investigative Committee has confirmed that forensic experts are examining medical and official documentation related to the surgery, and further tests are being conducted to understand what happened in the clinic.
Reports suggest that Burtseva underwent a buttock augmentation, a procedure intended to enhance the size and shape of the buttocks. This type of surgery often involves using silicone implants or transferring fat from other areas of the body through liposuction. Some reports say she suffered anaphylactic shock during or after the operation, a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
Experts explain that buttock augmentation, including procedures like the Brazilian Butt Lift, usually requires general anesthesia and antibiotics are given to help prevent infection. Although many people seek these surgeries for their cosmetic benefits, the procedures are not without risk. Complications can range from fluid or blood accumulation, chronic pain, and loss of sensation, to severe infections, fat or blood clots, permanent scarring, and, in rare cases like Burtseva’s, death.
Doctors advise anyone considering cosmetic surgery to carefully choose qualified, experienced surgeons and be aware of both the potential benefits and the serious risks. The investigation into Burtseva’s case is expected to focus on whether safety protocols were followed and if any factor contributed to the tragedy.
