Actress and singer Romy Mars, daughter of Lost in Translation director Sofia Coppola and Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars, has spoken out against invasive comments about her body that she has been receiving online.
In a recent TikTok post, Mars addressed speculation about her chest, which she said has left her feeling uncomfortable. “A lot of my comments from a previous video…people were saying, ‘Oh, my god, those are new,’ referring to my boobs,” she explained. “I responded and said, ‘No, they’re not,’ and everyone said, ‘We don’t believe you. She got a boob job.’”
Mars expressed disappointment over the disbelief, emphasizing her transparency on social media. “I feel like I’ve been so honest on the internet. I literally share my whole life with you, and you don’t believe me about this very, deeply personal thing,” she said.
She went on to ask her followers to stop speculating about her body, stressing that she has never had plastic surgery. “It makes me uncomfortable that adult people and teenagers…are saying my breasts are plastic. I have never had any work done in my life,” Mars stated.
The 19-year-old singer also explained natural fluctuations in her body, attributing changes to her age and birth control. “Sometimes my boobs are big. They fluctuate. It’s called the birth control pill. It’s called being 19. It’s called having the body I have. Sorry,” she said, ending the video with a defiant gesture.
Fans quickly offered support in the comments. One user wrote, “Like, you’re a growing teenage girl, hello??” Another noted, “It’s so weird the way people are comfortable commenting on women’s bodies.”
Mars previously spoke to Teen Vogue about other challenges she faces as the daughter of celebrities. She reflected on the opportunities afforded to her due to her family connections. “I think about nepotism a lot, like more than I should,” she said. “It’s true there are so many talented people, more talented than me. I get the opportunity to record in a studio and have access to scripts and stuff because of my family… I always try to think about how lucky I am to get the opportunities that I get.”
