WFAA-TV (Channel 8) meteorologist Mariel Ruiz returned to the studio this week after a six-week hiatus to recover from breast cancer surgery. Her return marks a significant milestone in her ongoing journey to recovery.
Ruiz, an Arlington native, revealed her diagnosis in July after discovering a lump during a self-examination. She was later diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, a revelation that prompted widespread support from colleagues and viewers alike.
Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis, Ruiz emphasized the role of early detection in improving her prognosis. “Early detection saved my life,” she said, noting that her outlook remains positive. She completed chemotherapy in November and will continue with preventive treatments to ensure her long-term health.
On Monday, Ruiz shared her return on Facebook, where viewers flooded her post with messages of encouragement and joy. Fans expressed relief and happiness at seeing her back on the air, praising her resilience and positive spirit.
