A 21-year-old woman has died after undergoing cosmetic surgery, including a breast augmentation and tummy tuck, at a private clinic in Colombia.
Maria Jose Torres Osorio, originally from the coastal city of Ciénaga, began experiencing severe pain and dizziness just hours after the procedures. Her condition worsened over the following days, and she was admitted to a hospital in Neiva eight days after the surgery.
According to reports, Maria went into cardiac arrest and suffered multiple organ failure. Five days later, doctors confirmed she was brain dead, likely due to oxygen deprivation affecting several vital organs.
Given the seriousness of her condition, Maria was placed on life support. However, she showed no signs of recovery, and her family made the heart-wrenching decision to disconnect the machines nine days after the surgery, confirming her death.
Maria’s father criticized the clinic, stating that they had not provided adequate information about the risks of the procedures before or after the operations.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, as concerns grow over the safety standards of cosmetic procedures in the region.
This case highlights the potential dangers associated with cosmetic surgery, particularly when post-operative complications are not promptly addressed.
