Zoë Irwin, one of the nation’s leading stylists and colourists, has turned her personal and professional experience with hair loss into a pioneering service aimed at tackling misinformation and providing real solutions for thinning hair.
Daily, Irwin witnesses the emotional highs and lows that hair can evoke in her clients—many of whom are navigating perimenopause or menopause and struggling with hair shedding or thinning. Disturbed by stories of women investing in ineffective or harmful treatments, she decided to take action.
“Women are being sold overpriced scalp oils that can worsen the problem, or spending thousands on treatments that aren’t suitable for their hair type because their shedding was misdiagnosed,” Irwin explains. Having suffered hair damage herself from an experimental colouring process, she knows how confusing and overwhelming the hair loss industry can be.
Introducing Hair Tweakments
Irwin launched Hair Tweakments last autumn at the John Frieda salon in Mayfair. The one-hour, bespoke service provides an immediate confidence boost and guides clients toward long-term, evidence-based solutions for hair thinning.
“Hair loss can stem from multiple causes, and proper diagnosis is essential,” Irwin says. “During consultations, I recommend nutritional supplements that support hair health and teach scalp massage techniques that relieve tension. I also collaborate with dermatologists and trichologists, like Dr Sharon Wong, for blood tests and diagnostics to create a personalised treatment plan.”
Instant Results with No-Damage Extensions
For immediate transformation, Irwin applies custom-fitted, ethically sourced hair extensions by Great Lengths. These fine, colour-matched tapes are strategically placed to restore volume in the areas where it is most needed, including around the sides of the face, often where women experience early thinning.
“It’s ironic that women often lose density at the sides of their face just as they want to enhance their jawline with their hair,” Irwin notes. “We place three or so fine strands near the ears, angled to fall naturally forward, creating subtle lift and a youthful shape.”
The bespoke extensions are designed to be worn seamlessly, whether hair is styled down or up. They cause no root tension, and removal after six weeks is safe with a solvent, allowing for replacement if desired. The team also advises on blending new hair growth for a natural finish.
Restoring Confidence, One Strand at a Time
For Irwin, the service is about more than aesthetics. “If I can remove the vulnerability so many women feel when their hair thins, I’ll have achieved something truly meaningful,” she says.
With Hair Tweakments, Irwin is offering women a combination of immediate visual confidence and a pathway to scientifically supported hair restoration, addressing both the emotional and physical impact of thinning hair.
