A bride from Newcastle upon Tyne has shared the heartwarming reason she chose to walk down the aisle without a wig on her wedding day, describing the experience as “the most beautiful” she has ever felt.
Dani G, 27, was diagnosed with alopecia universalis at the age of two after her mother, Julie, noticed patches of hair falling out. By her teenage years, Dani had lost all hair on her scalp and body, leading her to wear wigs for most of her life.
Fast forward to May 2025, Dani surprised her wedding guests in Crete, Greece, by embracing her natural look during the ceremony. The intimate event was attended by just 20 of the couple’s closest family and friends.
Dani met her husband, Jack Willis, 32, in 2018 at a local gym while she was competing as a swimmer—without wearing a wig. The couple dated for five years before Jack proposed in May 2023 during a beachside holiday in Santa Pola, Spain.
Speaking about her decision to go wig-free, Dani said her husband had always expressed a desire to see her “how he fell in love with me.” She explained: “I wanted to feel my most confident self. On the day, I felt super confident—it was one of the most beautiful times I’ve ever felt.”
Although Dani wore wigs later in the day—a blonde updo for her wedding dinner and speeches, followed by a long brunette style for the evening party—walking down the aisle naturally was a deeply personal choice. She said it allowed her to “show off her face” and embrace the person Jack had first fallen for.
Dani began sharing content online in 2017, initially posting makeup tutorials without her wigs. By 2022, she became a full-time content creator, using her platform to raise awareness about alopecia and empower others experiencing hair loss.
“The support and love I received after sharing my wedding day online was overwhelming,” Dani said. “Reading comments from people with hair loss saying it gave them hope or encouragement is the best feeling.”
Jack added: “I wanted her to walk down the aisle without a wig because that’s how we first met. Dani is confident, positive, and my best friend. I love her so much.”
The couple’s story highlights the power of confidence, self-acceptance, and love, serving as an inspiration for those navigating life with alopecia.
