Hair Loss Emerges as the Top Hair Concern in Wyoming, New Search Data Reveals

by Shreeya

From bitter winters and dry air to daily stress, Wyoming residents face distinct challenges in maintaining healthy hair—and many are increasingly turning to online searches for guidance. New data reveals that hair loss has become the most pressing hair-related concern across the state, outpacing issues such as dandruff, hair growth, and cosmetic treatments.

The findings come from an analysis conducted by barbershop Ruffians, which examined Google Keyword Planner data to identify the hair topics most frequently searched by Wyoming residents. Keywords including “hair loss,” “hair growth,” “dandruff,” “hair transplant,” and “hair thickness” were ranked by average monthly search volume, offering insight into the concerns people are researching most often.

Hair Loss Leads Statewide Searches

Hair loss tops the list, averaging 587 searches per month. Thinning hair and excessive shedding can be deeply unsettling, often linked to genetics, hormonal changes, stress, aging, or underlying health conditions. The issue can present in multiple forms, ranging from gradual pattern baldness to sudden stress-related hair loss, making it both a physical and emotional concern for many individuals.

Growing Interest in Hair Growth Solutions

Close behind is hair growth, with 550 average monthly searches. Hair growth depends on a complex biological cycle within scalp follicles and is influenced by genetics, nutrition, hormones, and lifestyle factors. The high search volume suggests that many Wyoming residents are actively seeking ways to stimulate growth or restore hair density.

Dandruff Remains Widespread

Dandruff ranks third, drawing 349 searches per month. Commonly caused by dry skin, sensitivity to hair products, or conditions such as eczema or seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff can lead to persistent flaking and itching. While not medically serious, its visibility and discomfort make it a frequent source of concern.

Rising Curiosity About Hair Transplants

Hair transplants take fourth place with 238 monthly searches. The procedure involves relocating healthy hair follicles from thicker areas of the scalp to regions affected by thinning or baldness. Modern techniques such as follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplantation (FUT) have improved results, making transplants a more appealing long-term option for some.

Focus on Hair Thickness

Completing the top five is hair thickness, with 84 searches per month. Strand thickness affects how full and healthy hair appears and is largely determined by genetics. However, diet, health, and hair care routines can also play a role, driving interest in methods to strengthen and add volume to hair.

Robyn Mulgrew, store manager at Ruffians, says the data highlights the cultural and emotional significance of hair.

“Hair is closely linked to identity, confidence, and youth,” Mulgrew said. “Social pressures, stress, and shifting beauty standards all influence how people feel about their hair, and the scale of the hair-care industry reflects just how important it has become.”

Mulgrew added that while issues such as thinning, breakage, and slow growth can feel discouraging, treatment options are more diverse than ever.

“People now have access to everything from natural remedies like hair oils and rice water to medical and surgical solutions such as hair transplants,” she said. “The key is proactive care—eating a balanced diet, limiting harsh styling practices like excessive heat or bleaching, and avoiding habits such as smoking or heavy alcohol consumption.”

As search trends continue to climb, the message is clear: for many Wyoming residents, hair care extends beyond appearance, touching on confidence, self-expression, and overall well-being.
