Twinkle Khanna recently opened up about her menopause journey and shared how she is rebuilding strength during this transition. Menopause marks a major hormonal shift in a woman’s life, ending reproductive capability and bringing a range of symptoms that can include fatigue, mental fog, overheating, and energy fluctuations. Khanna described this phase as a period of contraction, noting she sometimes feels both tired and energized, alert and foggy, overheated and clammy.
After many years away from lifting, Khanna resumed strength training to counter muscle and bone weakening associated with menopause. “I lift weights again after almost 20 years. I squat, I lunge, I do pelvic floor exercises while working on my book,” she wrote, explaining that rebuilding stamina has been essential. Her renewed routine is paired with a wellness approach that includes targeted supplements and breathwork.
Khanna’s routine features magnesium glycinate, ashwagandha, Lion’s mane, Brahmi, and primrose oil. These supplements are positioned to support daily resilience amid hormonal changes, complementing her exercise and breathing practices. A notable component of her regimen is Brahmari breathwork, a pranayama technique that involves deep inhalation and a humming exhale, intended to promote relaxation and focus during heightened stress or fatigue.
In addition to traditional practices, Khanna blends modern and traditional elements to support her body through menopause. She emphasizes a balanced approach that includes rest, nutrition, and mental wellness strategies alongside exercise and supplementation.
Regarding dietary choices, Khanna softened her stance on carbohydrates during this phase. She described carbs as a kinder presence for her body, saying, “When your body is already Sholay’s Hema Malini dancing on shards of glass, you can’t deprive it of the kindness of carbs.” Her typical meals include toasted sandwiches for lunch and dinner, with occasional ice cream treats shared with her daughter about every two weeks.
Khanna’s candid account reflects a broader trend among women embracing proactive health strategies during menopause. Her experience underscores the value of combining resistance training with mindful nutrition and accessible wellness practices to manage symptoms and maintain quality of life during this transition.
