New Oklahoma Clinic Offers Support for Postpartum Depression

Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma has launched the state’s first perinatal behavioral health clinic, offering vital mental health services to mothers during and after pregnancy.

“Untreated mental health conditions during pregnancy pose serious risks to both mother and baby,” said Kalee Woody, a general psychiatrist at the clinic.

Postpartum depression, anxiety, and trauma are common challenges for new mothers. “This is an especially vulnerable time for mental health. Some mothers face pre-existing conditions, while others develop new ones,” Woody explained. “Many moms feel guilty, pressure themselves, and often lack the confidence to speak up.”

The clinic, officially inaugurated on Monday, provides a safe environment for mothers and supports stronger starts for families. “We answer any questions moms may have and create individualized treatment plans tailored to both the mother and her baby,” Woody said.

Addressing a critical gap in maternal care, the clinic supports mothers experiencing their first mental health crisis as well as those with ongoing challenges. “We want everyone to know we’re available for moms facing their first mental health issues or existing struggles,” Woody added.

The clinic is now accepting patients, offering much-needed resources and guidance to Oklahoma mothers navigating mental health during and after pregnancy.
