Second Small Earthquake in Days Raises Health Concerns in N.J.

by Shreeya

For the second time in just four days, a small earthquake shook parts of northern New Jersey, raising concerns about the physical and mental health effects of repeated seismic events. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake, which struck at 12:12 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, had a preliminary magnitude of 2.7 and was centered about 1 mile southwest of Hillsdale in Bergen County.

Although no injuries or structural damage were reported, the tremor was strong enough to be felt as far away as Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Virginia.

The repeated shaking has sparked anxiety among some residents, prompting local officials to remind the public about stress-related symptoms and to ensure preparedness for future events. Health experts recommend checking on vulnerable individuals, especially those with heart conditions or heightened sensitivity to stress, following such seismic activity.
