Public health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to frozen sprouted beans, prompting a nationwide recall. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are urging consumers to discard or return recalled products immediately.
As of Wednesday, 11 confirmed cases have been reported across 10 states, with four individuals hospitalized. Although no deaths have been recorded, the CDC warns that the actual number of infections is likely higher, since many cases go unreported when people recover without medical treatment.
The affected products include Deep Sprouted (Moth) and Deep Sprouted Moong beans, both sold in 16-ounce packages by the Chetak LLC Group. Illnesses linked to these products date back to October 2024.
The CDC advises that symptoms may appear up to four weeks after exposure, and people should avoid eating, selling, or serving any recalled beans to reduce the risk of infection.
The median age of those infected is 43, with a slightly higher incidence among men (55%) compared to women (45%). Public health officials continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further spread.
