Users Report Unexpected Changes in Sex Drive After Taking Ozempic

by Shreeya

Ozempic users are sharing surprising experiences about how the medication affects their sex lives.

Ozempic belongs to a group called GLP-1 medications. It is mainly prescribed to people with type 2 diabetes to help lower blood sugar. However, many people also use it to help lose weight. The official website notes that although Ozempic is not meant for weight loss, it may cause some weight reduction when combined with diet and exercise.

As more people use Ozempic, they have begun reporting unexpected side effects. Some have noticed common effects like gas and loose skin. But recently, many have talked about changes in their libido, or sex drive.

On Reddit, users in the r/Ozempic community have discussed these changes openly. One user said, “My sex drive is completely gone.” Another woman commented, “Mine has left the building. I miss it!” Several others said their desire for sex dropped dramatically after starting Ozempic.

Yet not all users experience the same thing. Some report the opposite effect. One person wrote, “Mine definitely improved, my husband loves it. I went years without any desire at all.” Another added, “Mine has improved greatly, and it was good before.”

Experts say the changes may be linked to how GLP-1 drugs work in the brain. Dr. James Simon, a reproductive endocrinologist and clinical professor, told The Wall Street Journal, “These drugs work in the same brain areas that control pleasure and sexual interest in both men and women.”

Dr. Taylor Kohn, a specialist in male reproductive medicine, explained that losing weight and improving heart health could help with erectile dysfunction over time. He said, “If you reverse cardiovascular disease, erectile dysfunction improves as well.”

When contacted, Novo Nordisk, the maker of Ozempic, emphasized patient safety. They advised people to use the drug only as directed by doctors and to report any side effects through official channels.

As Ozempic’s popularity grows, users and doctors alike continue to learn more about its effects beyond blood sugar and weight loss. Those experiencing unexpected changes should speak to a healthcare professional.
