The Sardinia Cup, absent for 14 years, is set to make a triumphant return this summer in Porto Cervo, with 20 boats already confirmed for the revived regatta.
Hosted by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the event will run from May 31 to June 7, attracting top international and Italian sailing teams.
The regatta will feature two divisions, Sardinia Cup Class 1 and Class 2, with ten yacht club teams from across Europe competing. Each team must include at least one female sailor and one sailor under 25, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and youth participation.
International entries include the Royal Ocean Racing Club, Yacht Club de France, Bayerischer Yacht Club, and the Turkish Offshore Racing Sports Club. Italian participants include Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, Yacht Club Repubblica Marinara di Pisa, Yacht Club Rimini, and Vela Club Portocivitanova.
Notable competitors include James Neville’s TP52 Ino Veritas, Peter Harrison’s IRC 52 Jolt 3, and Niklas Zennström’s Carkeek 41 Rán, the reigning IRC European champion, with Adrian Stead on tactics. Roberto Lacorte’s WallyRocket 51 Rocket Nikka and the Fast40+ Nola will sail for the Yacht Club Repubblica Marinara di Pisa, while Germany’s Bayerischer Yacht Club fields Carl-Peter Fortes’ TP52 Red Bandit, winner of the 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race.
Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will compete with Django WR and Django JP, both owned by Giovanni Lombardi Stronati. High-profile sailors confirmed aboard include Guillermo Parada, Vasco Vascotto, Alberto Bolzan, and Michele Ivaldi.
Organisers described the Sardinia Cup’s return as a major milestone for Mediterranean offshore racing and a boost for Porto Cervo’s international sailing calendar, promising intense competition and high-level performance across all divisions.
