Volkswagen is gearing up to expand its all-electric lineup by introducing a completely new ID. Tiguan, which will carry forward the nameplate but share no mechanical links with the traditional ICE-powered Tiguan. Essentially, this new model will serve as the successor to the ID.4, retaining similar proportions while adopting a more conventional design approach.
Spotted in recent spy shots, the upcoming ID. Tiguan features a slightly revised front fascia, highlighted by new headlights connected with a thin light strip interrupted by the Volkswagen logo. Redesigned vents along the front bumper sides and a wider lower air intake further differentiate the look. At the rear, new taillights and a revised bumper complete the subtle visual updates.
While maintaining the ID.4’s overall profile, the ID. Tiguan carries over familiar elements such as door handles and wheel designs, though Volkswagen is expected to introduce new wheel options and a refreshed color palette to clearly distinguish the two models.
Inside, the ID. Tiguan is expected to replace some haptic-feedback buttons with more traditional physical controls. A larger infotainment screen accompanied by a volume knob is likely, alongside AI integration with ChatGPT and the use of recycled materials. Passenger and cargo space will remain largely unchanged, reflecting the model’s status as a facelift rather than a full redesign.
Under the skin, the ID. Tiguan will continue to use Volkswagen’s MEB platform, potentially upgraded to the MEB+ configuration. While major powertrain changes are unlikely, some updates are expected, and recalibrated driver-assistance systems aim to enhance both safety and everyday driving comfort.
The official debut of the ID. Tiguan remains unconfirmed, though rumors suggest a reveal could occur later this year, with sales expected to start in 2027. Despite sharing its name with the traditional Tiguan, this electric SUV is a distinct model in Volkswagen’s expanding EV lineup.
